Tommy Nolan

Hi. I’m Tommy. I work in theatre, education, digital media, & tabletop gaming.

And I’d like to work with you! Check out some things I do or get in touch and let’s make something together.

About me…

Working hard at Parker with my elite team of middle school technicians

I double majored in Theatre Education and Theatrical Design & Production at Illinois State University. After student teaching at Maine East High School I landed a Technical Direction position at the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago. In my four years there, I provided technical support for hundreds of weekly assemblies, evening events and rentals. I founded the Middle School Stage Crew club, shepherded a massive renovation of the auditorium control booth, and – as my boss once told me – "managed the most unmanageable room in the school."

My first day in the Kent Scene Shop. It’s a lot cleaner now.

After relocating to Denver, I became the Technical Theatre Director at Kent Denver School. There, I have taught several sections of both middle school and high school Technical Theatre class (regularly called by students and parents alike “the most popular class at Kent Denver”). I also manage the school’s six performance spaces where I’ve been lucky enough to design and mount several shows (favorites include Into the Woods and The Women of Lockerbie).

I also put out a fire on stage once. That was exciting.

Me talking to the internet about musical theatre…or something…

In my free time, I maintain a somewhat fanatical YouTube channel about musical theatre. What started as a hobby has quickly expanded into my own little corner of the internet. It's silly and fun. I like making the videos and people seem to like watching them.

And it’s also spun off into a transatlantic musical theatre podcast and some media opportunities – pretty neat stuff!

These days I’m looking for an energetic and challenging workplace in either the Denver area or remotely where I can put my digital media expertise to good use and maybe have some fun along the way.

Oh, and that fire was pretty exciting. I got to use an extinguisher and everything.
